Throughout the 9 weeks, students will use the materials above to master the 4th grade Reading portion of the ELA curriculum.
Novels
1st- 9 weeks: Old Yeller
2nd- 9 weeks: From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
3rd- 9 weeks: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
4th- 9 weeks: A Year Down Yonder

Grammar
*Daily Oral Language(D.O.L.) – daily sentence editing.
*HBJ Language (textbook)- used to master parts-of-speech and mechanics
*Written Composition- will be alternated with parts-of-speech
*Journals- at least 4 entries per week
*Handwriting- students will complete practice packets weekly

Spelling
Words and rules are presented on Monday, along with a test. There will be a few homework assignments during the week. 3X's each is due every Thursday morning. Tests are Fridays.

ELA/S.S. Homework
Student will begin every 9 weeks with a 100-pt. homework grade in each Reading, Spelling, Grammar, and Social Studies. When a homework assignment is missed, 5 points will be deducted from the 100-pts. At the end of the 9 weeks, the remaining points will be counted as a test grade for that subject.
Social Studies: Mrs. West
Fourth grade Social Studies focuses on the different regions of the United
States, including geography and
history. There will also be several units devoted to Texas history, geography,
and culture. Students will be
receiving a weekly newspaper called "Texas Studies Weekly. " The newspaper
includes history, current events, games, and just interesting facts about Texas.

Religion: Mrs. Hagans (4H)
The Religion curriculum includes studies of the Bible, Catholic living, and the Ten Commandments. The primary resource is the text, Faith First. The series has a fun website at www.faithfirst.com (password "God") with great reviews for each chapter, which will be part of the curriculum. All papers are to be kept in the religion section of their binder.

Math: Mrs. Duff
The children are expected to master computation of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, simple geometry, and problem solving.

Science: Mrs. Hagans
Students focus on a 4-part curriculum: Life Sciences, Physical Science, Earth Science, and the Human Body. The text and supplementary materials will be used.
