4th Grade Miscellaneous

Classes begin at 8:00 !!!

Students need time in the morning to get books from their lockers and be ready to begin class at 8:00. Students should not arrive before 7:35 (see p.13, SMS Handbook), however, they are admitted to the classroom at 7:45 to get ready for the day.

If your child is absent from school, it is required that you call the school office before 9:00 am (see p. 11, SMS Handbook). It is helpful if you would request that homework be collected for your child. When your child returns to school, he/she can stop by the office to pick up their work, or someone can pick it up that afternoon. Students are given an extra day for each day of illness to complete the assignments. It is the students' responsibility to turn in any missed assignments.

It is important that homework be completed and turned in on time. If homework is not completed, a grade of zero will be given and a "Missing Homework" slip will be sent home. This notifies you, the parent, that your child has a zero grade for that assignment. (Handbook p.30) The note must be signed and the homework must be completed. Partial completion of homework may or may not be accepted by the teacher. Individual teachers will set acceptability standards. **If there is a valid reason, (illness, emergency, etc.) a note may be written to excuse your child. Completion of work will still be required for the next day.

Please help your child have the necessary supplies: pens, pencils, checking pens, and paper. The wrap packs that students received on the first day of school are only a "starter kit." Replacement supplies are your responsibility. Students also need access to a dictionary and a Bible for homework completion.

All hardcover textbooks and consumable textbooks must be covered at all times. Please do not tape the book cover directly to the book.

If a child leaves something at home (lunches, books, homework, etc.), please do not bring it to school for them. It is essential that they learn the responsibility of having all their materials everyday. Lunch is always provided for the child in these situations, so don't worry! (p. 17 Handbook)
