ECI Nutritional Requirement Guidelines for Schools
		In a effort to promote a healthier future for our children, ECI and St. Michaels School have adopted the policies for nutrition in Texas public schools set forth and instituted by the Texas Department of Agriculture. We want to be a part of the team that helps to alleviate and eliminate the growing childhood obesity epidemic.   Although we are not governed by the same criteria that public schools have to adhere to, we feel it is just as important that we adopt these same standards so that we can promote a positive and healthier lifestyle for our children.

		TDA new policy requirements		ECI at St.Michaels Café
		Elementary School
		No Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV) or candy at any time.		ECI does not offer any FMNV's.
		No competitive foods at any time.		No soda vending or any other competitive foods are offered during lunch.
		French fries may not exceed 3 ounces per serving, may only be served once a week, and students may only purchase one serving at a time.		While ECI / STM offer fries on a daily basis, fried french fries have been eliminated.  Only baked fries are offered.
		Middle and Junior High School
		No FMNVs or candy until after last lunch period.		ECI does not offer any FMNV's.
		No competitive foods during meal times.		No soda vending or any other competitive foods are offered during lunch.
		French fries may not exceed 3 ounces per serving, may only be served three times a week, and students may only purchase one serving at a time.		While ECI / STM offer fries on a daily basis, fried french fries have been eliminated.  Only baked fries are offered.
		New contracts starting March 3, 2004 and contract renewals must expressly prohibit the sale of sugared, carbonated beverages in containers larger than 12 ounces.		ECI / STM does not offer any carbonated beverages.
		By the 2005-06 school year, the goal is to have no more than 30 percent of the beverages available in vending machines be sugared, carbonated soft drinks.		Vending Machines are not available during lunch.
