Parents Lending Useful Support, referred to as “PLUS," is the service organization that coordinates volunteer participation at St. Michael Catholic School. PLUS committee volunteers work with the school faculty and administrative staff to provide support for enrichment activities and promote parental involvement.
Parent volunteers are an integral part of our school and are allowed to assist in many of our children’s educational experiences. We are very fortunate to have so many ways to contribute time to help our school. There are opportunities to volunteer at mass, help with special events, fundraising and assisting in the classroom. Every parent is welcome and encouraged to participate in PLUS.
If you are an adult involved with children in any parish/school activity such as sports, volunteer drivers, a school volunteer on a regular basis, religious education, vacation bible school, etc. one of the requirements for volunteering is attendance at a VIRTUS workshop. The Archdiocese requires all volunteers who have regular contact with children under the age of 18 go through a screening process that includes a background check and attendance at a workshop called “Virtus: Protecting God’s Children”. The workshop includes discussions focused on recognition and prevention of child sexual abuse. Attendees will learn steps that the faith community can take to create a safe environment for every child who comes into our midst.
